Protecting the island
Home Bay mooring
A mooring suitable for boats up to 12 metres is available for free use, with permission arranged in advance. Mooring permission does not include landing on the island.
No landing or dogs
Motuketekete is privately held and is not open to the public. Landing on the island is not allowed. To protect the birds, dogs are strictly prohibited on the island.
No recreational fishing
Recreational fishing and seafood gathering are not allowed anywhere within the Kawau Bay High Protection Area (HPA).
Restoration
Motuketekete is being carefully restored as a home for native birds, including many penguins. Pest eradication is under way.
